best thanksgiving movies part 2

After posting my favorite movies of Thanksgiving, I began to get a little frustrated. I don't think I gave that post enough love and attention. There are many movies that would be fantastic for Thanksgiving, and many of them got left out of my prior blog post.

1. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (R) (1987) *NOT FOR KIDS*

If you have kids that want to watch this, I strongly recommend the edited for television version. The "raw" version has some hard language in it that makes it inappropriate for kids. However, for older folks it is a hilarious John Hughes directed comedy classic about getting home to family for Thanksgiving. I grew up watching the tv version with my family, and I have fond memories of us all cracking up with Steve Martin and John Candy. However, if you watch the DVD version you are in for a rude awakening. There's a lot more crude humor in the unedited version.

2. National Treasure (PG) (2004)

This is a fun Mission Impossible meets Indiana Jones search for hidden treasure. Nicholas Cage is the hero who must solve an ancient puzzle left by the Founding Fathers of America. This is a great family oriented action adventure. If it's been a while since you've seen it, it's worth another look with your fam!

3. Miracle on 34th Street (G) (1947)

According to TV Guide, this is scheduled to come on television at 2PM on Thanksgiving day, on NBC. The movie is a nice transition from Thanksgiving to Christmas, as it actually begins with the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. After visiting New York on my honeymoon last December and seeing 34th street, (and Macy's), the movie takes on a new magical glow. You can nap away your turkey feast while enjoying Miracle on 34th Street.

4. Garfield's Thanksgiving (G) (1989)

This little gem can be found on the Garfield DVD holiday collection entitled "Garfield's Holiday Celebrations". I love this irresistable little meow meow kitty. Fun for the whole family, seriously.

5. Toy Story 3 (G) (2010)

This is a wonderful Disney movie that is all about family togetherness and change. With humor, nostalgia, fun, and some emotional heaviness tossed in, it may just remind you of why your family gets together on Thanksgiving in the first place. Highly recommended.

So, there you have it. Some more Thanksgiving classics you can watch with your family this Turkey Day. Leave a comment or two and let me know what you think!
